Mother's Day Jewel, 2013

First things first...We are truly blessed to have the means to set a pretty table and invite our friends to join us for good food and fellowship. I am mindful that many are not so fortunate. My daughter has a passion for the work of the Food Bank. As a singer-songwriter, she has written and recorded a song that is the anthem for the world wide Crop Hunger Walk project. Her song, "Raise Your Voice" is featured in their video. I've included a link in the side margin of my blog. I hope that it will encourage you to support projects in your community that contribute to the effort to overcome hunger.

I hope that you had a blessed and peaceful Mother's Day surrounded by your precious family.  After church, Sweet Mister and I were happy to welcome KC, David, and Beatrice Emaline, and David's parents to our table.  It was a lovely Spring day, and we lingered and visited over a simple luncheon of pork tenderloin, baked potatoes, green bean casserole, salad, and hot bread.  Much time was spent gazing with loving eyes at our almost 8 months old, Honey Bee.

A sun-kissed table dressed in feminine creams and pinks greeted our guests.

No tablecloth today...I used a lovely old set of Madeira linen placemats, found at an estate sale, which worked well with some of Nana's antique linen napkins.  The silver is my wedding flatware, Reed & Barton Grande Renaissance.

Nary a charger plate in sight, we dined on the Copeland Spode Jewel dinner plate...so lady-like and just right for a Mother's Day celebration.

The Copeland Spode Jewel "Heath & Rose" accent plate was removed during lunch and returned for our dessert of fresh peach pie a la mode.

"Jewel" is the name of the 'blank' for this plate.  You might be more familiar with the popular Spode Jewel "Billingsley Rose"....the same blank with a different transfer design.  Spode did a number of variations for the Jewel blank.

It always reminds me of lace, and I adore the scalloped edge.

A pair of Hobby Lobby jardinieres held simple pots of hot pink Azaleas from the grocery store.

My loyal stand-bys, the Val St. Lambert crystal candlesticks added much desired reflective value.
The Wedgwood Patrician tureen and under plate made a regal centerpiece...(rather "queen motherish", don't you think?)...

...all resting on our dear Nana's antique Italian Reticulated Lace runner.

Ready and waiting for our guests.

Iced tea or water was served in the Waterford Simply Pink goblet.  The Tiffin Elyse goblet was available for wine.

The buffet was simply dressed with another pair of Azaleas in silver champagne buckets.

A quartet of crystal decanters, resting at each corner of the table, held fresh water.  I want my guests to be able to easily refill their glasses during our meal.

Beatrice's chair is waiting at her placesetting between her mama and daddy.  I like to think that including her at the table from the beginning of her life will have a positive effect on her in later years.  Some day many of these things will belong to her and to her cousins, my precious grandsons.

My family gathered around our table for a delicious lunch and delightful conversation...I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day!  I hope that you had a glorious day, too!

You can check out KC's music at www.kcclifford.com, on iTunes, and on YouTube.  I hope that you'll take a few minutes and give her a listen.  You'll also enjoy reading back through her blog on this site.  The girl can really write!  Her latest CD is called "The Tag Hollow Sessions""  It is available on iTunes or through her website.  I hope that you'll give her music a chance.  I know that I have zero objectivity where she is concerned, but I think that you'll fall in love with her music and her!
